Flapjack Records is about to embark on:

FJBITE01:
"Bite Sized Beats Vol. 1" - Wattie Green

A. Flip Mode
B. Love Break

Flapjack Records is proud to present the first release in a new off shoot collection of 7" single vinyl pressings entitled "Bite Sized Beats".....yep that's right, the tiny little records that used to have big holes in the middle and played at 45 rpm, that's what these releases will be pressed on. Only these records will have the standard sized pin hole and have a full 6 to 7 minute house track on each side that plays at 33 rpm. But aren't 7" records low in volume you may ask? Truthfully they are lower in volume than 12" pressings, but ironically are mastered at a higher volume than digital releases and sound super warm and great! It's a big sound on a smaller format which is why the name "Bite Sized Beats" suits it well.

"Bite Sized Beats Vol. 1"
has two smoking cuts from Flapjack veteran Wattie Green. The first cut "Flip Mode" is a great throwback to the jack of i:Cube's hit Disco Cubism. Utilizing the same slammin key sample, Wattie slices it up just right and puts in the smoker very early in the morning. After about 8 hours, it comes out and is seasoned to perfection with his solid beats and break wisdom resulting in one hell of a delicious dance floor bomb.

On the flip side, we have a "Love Break" which is a beautiful Mexican style dish loaded with Latin flavor. This cut is quite a departure from Wattie signature swinging style, but consistent and tantalizing to the tongue as all of his dishes are. Throwing us back to the days of the Latin house craze, Wattie bastes and bakes this acoustic bass and piano baby to perfection. One whiff of this jam will have your feet stomping into a fried chicken frenzy.

So if you are not looking for something too big, but with huge flavor, then you best try out "Bite Sized Beats Vol. 1". I'm sure you will find that it is extremely satisfying and many levels. There are many more of this series to come, so keep some room in the fridge for some of this future fried funk.

This 7" Vinyl release is available now at the following locations:
Downtown 304 | Juno | Gramaphone

FLAPD16:
Uriah West & Sean Michaels
"The Denver Omelet EP"

A. Gotta Groove
B. Gotta Groove (Mark & Stevens Remix)
C. Need Love
D. Need Love (That Peruvian Boy Remix)

Flapjack Records digital is back again with another meal loaded up with all the fixins.  Today's special is brought to you in part by Denver's Uriah West & Sean Michaels.  They give us a huge and delicious "The Denver Omelet EP".  What makes up a Denver omelet you ask?  Well that's easy, four rockin house tracks, two of which are remixes by the likes of Mark & Stevens and That Peruvian Boy.

The is Denver is omelet starts with a couple of cracked and fried "Gotta Groove"s.  The original mix is a solid sunny side up dance floor mover and shaker.  Complete with a nice funky disco groove and bass line, this adds a great base to our Denver omelet.  The vocal carries you through this as it could be a meal in itself.

Inside this omelet goes all the fixins.  First of which is the "Gotta Groove (Mark & Stevens Remix)".  Their mix is a brilliantly beaten and whisked to perfection take on the original that is aimed straight at the dance floor.  Thumping bass and disco breaks are the perfect mixins to add to any Denver omelet.

"Need Love" is a most crucial element to the fixins inside of the tastiest of Denver omelets.  Another funky disco bass jam with a vocal that gets you out of the bed in the morning salivating for some serious breakfast omelet action.  This jam fits great in breakfast or for brunch, hell, I would even it for dinner too.

To put the finishing touches on any Denver omelet, you can't for the "Need Love (That Peruvian Boy Remix)".  It's a mix several herbs and spices such as pinch of Todd Edwards and a hint of Jason Hodges.  Mix all that together with That Peruvian Boy's fresh house sound and you have one tasty ass remix.  Without any of the said ingredients mentioned above your mix will most likely be lacking in the flavor department.  It's best to head to the store and stock up on some FLAPD16: Uriah West & Sean Michaels - "The Denver Omelet EP".

SundayBrunchlox-PostingAd-CDT.jpgThis past weekend was International Bacon Day and it was celebrated here in Chicago at the famed Sunday Brunchlox party held at Karl Almaria's (of Bunchlox Records) house.  I happened to stop through there and chow down on plenty of bacon, pulled pork, and other random bacon infused delights such as bacon drizzled sticky buns.  Between all the eating and drinking I also found time to DJ.  Here is my bacon infused DJ set from the party:
